When COVID-19 hit, the historic Royal Academy of Arts’ Summer Exhibition was in danger of being cancelled. For the first time in its 250-year history, the Royal Academy’s Summer Exhibition went fully digital in partnership with WeTransfer. All 1,172 selected works from both celebrated and emerging artists were digitised and displayed as WeTransfer wallpaper in a dynamic grid reflecting the RA’s gallery walls. Curated in a random ‘lucky dip’ format, the experience allowed millions worldwide to discover contemporary art, extending the exhibition’s reach to its largest audience ever.
